The Kansas city chiefs were without Patrick Mahomes during the final games of their 2025 regular season campaign after the star signal-caller sustained a serious knee injury in the team’s Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in December.

Mahomes has since undergone surgery to repair ligaments in his left knee and is now officially on a path to make a full recovery. This week, Mahomes talked to reporters about his mental health amid his ongoing rehabilitation process.

In his comments to the media, Mahomes spoke about the role his teammates and family have played in the early stages of his recovery: “It definitely weighs on your mental a little bit,” Mahomes said of his injury.

“But for me, just having that goal in mind of trying to get better every day and knowing what I’m striving to do is just to be ready as quickly as possible and have a chance to play in that opening day game, no matter where it is so that I’m there with my teammates and can be at training camp and doing what I need to do.

That’s pushed me through some of those mental hurdles.
