President Trump posted on Truth Social that surging oil prices are “a very small price to pay” for destroying Iran’s nuclear threat, adding:
“ONLY FOOLS WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY.” Oil hit $119 a barrel on Monday — up 78% from $67 on February 27, the day before strikes began. The average U.S. gasoline price reached $3.45 per gallon, up 16% in one week. It is the first time oil passed $100 since 2022.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil transits, has seen traffic drop roughly 92%. Kuwait cut production. Iraq’s southern oil fields fell 70%. Dow futures dropped over 900 points.
Senate Minority Leader Schumer called on Trump to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Energy Secretary Wright said the Strait would reopen once Iran’s threat is neutralized. The White House offered government-backed insurance to tankers — but no ships have accepted escorts yet.
