The brooch features an open pendant heart and features three blue sapphires. The Cyrillic word for sixty, to mark the Diamond Jubilee, is depicted in diamonds.

It was gifted to her by several of her grandchildren, who were children of Princess Alice, the Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine. (Hence why it is called the “Hesse” Diamond Jubilee brooch.)

While it went on display at the Imperial Institute of London in 1897, afterwards, it “seems to have dropped out of public view,” according to the Court Jewelery. Queen Camilla first wore it in 2007 during a visit to the United States, when she was the Duchess of Cornwall. At that point, it hadn’t been seen in public for over a century.
