Britain’s Prince Harry has lashed disparaging comments made by the United States President about the United Kingdom’s role in Afghanistan.
Donald Trump angered allies on Thursday, US time, telling Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria” the US had “never needed” the transatlantic alliance and accused allies of staying “a little off the front lines” in Afghanistan.
On Friday, local time, Prince Harry joined other world leaders in signalling his disapproval. “I served there [Afghanistan]. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there,” he said in a statement.
“The United Kingdom alone had 457 service personnel killed.
“In 2001, NATO invoked Article 5 for the first—and only—time in history. It meant that every allied nation was obliged to stand with the United States in Afghanistan, in pursuit of our shared security.
